Riesling - Aromas in the grape
Rose
The smell of roses – which is also found in lychees – is formed in the grape skin by monoterpenes (flavor compounds) and transferred into the must during maceration.
The rose-like smell is typical of Rieslings from relatively warm winegrowing regions and vintages or for ripe Spätlese wines from light, permeable, sandy soils.
