Riesling - Aromas from ripening
Orange Peel
Together with apple, peach and mango fruit aromas, the orange-peel aroma forms the "second spring" of a Riesling, emerging after two to three years of maturation.
This prominent aroma trait thereby typically belongs to the ripeness characteristic of a classic Riesling of Spätlese grade or higher, and can last for up to ten years.
This olfactory component occurs more often in southern winegrowing regions in Rieslings from fully-ripe grape harvests.
