The subtle, fruity aroma of the lemon is equally fundamental and is characteristic of almost all Rieslings. Although stil quite apparent in young, fresh Rieslings, this aroma quality is less apparent in Rieslings of Auslese quality or above.
This citrus-like aroma tends to be discernible in Rieslings from stony soils, such as for example in the Nahe and Saar regions, but also in Rieslings from the New World.
