Riesling - Aromas in the grape

Fresh Grass

Fresh Grass
Fresh Grass

The smell of a freshly mown meadow is found above all in  Rieslings from more northern, and therefore cool wine  growing areas, although also in wines from substantial loam  soils such as typically appear in Franken, Rheinhessen, in the  Pfalz and in Baden.

Grassy aromas may also be an indication  of unripe grapes, where other aromas have not been sufficiently developed. This aroma can also be caused by short  whole-bunch pressing.
