Riesling - Aromas from the grape
Apricot
Apricot aromas in wine usually smell somewhat riper andmore concentrated than fine peach nuances.
The smell of apricot is thus also a typical feature of Rieslings made withgrapes harvested fully-ripe.
A maceration period can particularly intensify this aroma. Rieslings from more substantial soils - such as, for instance in the Pfalz, in the upper Rheingau, in Wachau and Alsace - exhibit this intensive smell-of-apricots characteristic very distinctly. Surprisingly, apricot aromas arc still perceivable when the Riesling grapes are affected by Botrytis cinerea.
